Cape Town & Stellenbosch Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa is a beautiful cosmopolitan city dominated by the flattopped Table Mountain, which you’ll climb. It’s a fantastic base from which to explore great vineyards, the Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Point, the amazing scenery of Chapman’s Peak Drive, the Boulder’s Beach penguin colony and the notorious former prison of Robben Island. Heading out of town along the famous Garden Route you’ll stop amongst the Cape Dutch architecture of Stellenbosch to sample a few vintages and do some walking in some of the best scenery in South Africa Knysna, Ostriches & Whales Your route crosses the Klein Karoo, an area known for its ostriches and caves, before reaching the coast at Knysna and its lagoon. You’ll visit the famous ‘Heads’ and take a hike along the rugged shoreline of Storms River. By way of the rolling wheat fields of the Overberg and getting your feet wet at Cape Agulhas – the most southerly point in Africa – you arrive at the whale capital of Hermanus which offers the best land-based whale watching in the world. Whale Watching From June to December, southern right whales swim into the shallower waters off the coast of South Africa at Hermanus, and offers fantastic viewing opportunities. As well as the whales you can go cage diving with sharks and visit seal and penguin colonies year-round.
